Derek is a seasoned private capital investor with ~15 years of experience profitably investing across sub-Saharan Africa. He has been active across various sectors such as infrastructure (including social infrastructure), manufacturing, financial services, and telecommunications etc.
He joins ARM-Harith from Affirma Capital (formerly Standard Chartered’sPrivate Equity division) where he was primarily responsible for its operations in West Africa and successfully managed a ~US$400m portfolio. Before this, he was a member of Standard Chartered’s Mezzanine and Alternative Solutions team which focused on structured mezzanine growth and special situations investing (including distressed asset acquisitions) in Africa.
Derek has a proven track record of managing assets through to performance and delivering exceptional outcomes for stakeholders. He has served actively on several Boards, including Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc, GZ Industries and Union Bank UK where he is known to have played active leadership roles in delivering positive outcomes. Derek started his investing careering with Vetiva Capital Management Limited, a leading investment banking firm in Nigeria, as an investment banking analyst focused on executing capital market and advisory (private and public sector) mandates across Nigeria.
Derek has an Executive MBA from INSEAD and a BSc in Economics from the University of Lagos.
